Summer @ Oakwood 2023

Program Information

Summer @ Oakwood provides summer academic learning in a relaxed, nurturing environment. Summer @ Oakwood teachers help each student maintain critical academic skills while enjoying enrichment and recreational activities with friends. Our small classes (1:6 Staff-Student ratio) make our program especially beneficial for students with learning differences.

This year, the program offers two Academic Morning options, as well as an Optional Recreational Afternoon opportunity.

Regular Academic Mornings

9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Students ignite their passion for learning through a variety of multisensory, project-based activities and learning experiences within the context of the program theme. Reading, math, writing, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills are applied in the classroom with the instruction and guidance of highly qualified Oakwood teachers.

Intensive Reading & Writing

8:30 AM - 12:00 PM
Teachers trained in Orton-Gillingham methodologies use fun, multisensory activities to target phonemic awareness skills, decoding (reading), encoding (spelling), fluency, and comprehension. Written language lessons include a variety of activities based on the 6+1 Traits of Writing. Students enjoy a variety of activities, incorporating physical movement and educational games to enrich lessons, all within a small-group environment.

Optional Afternoon Program

12:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Students will experience a variety of on-campus afternoon activities, building friendships and enhancing social skills.  Both creative and challenging activities may be offered, dependent on student interest collected during registration. Afternoon activities may vary each week.
