Outreach & Literacy Services

At Oakwood School, we know that early intervention is crucial, which is why we offer Outreach and Literacy Services to the Northern Virginia community without requiring enrollment in our private school for learning differences.

If your child is struggling with reading or working behind grade level, please reach out about any of the services below. We will provide information and resources to parents working to understand and support their child's learning strengths and challenges.

Reading Intervention Support

Literacy Assessment and Dyslexia Screening:

  • Reveals the likelihood of Dyslexia.
  • Measures competency in areas of reading development (decoding, spelling, fluency, and comprehension).
  • Identifies potential accommodations or strategies to support reading growth.
  • Provides a report with data to support conversations with teachers, tutors, and other adults directing your child's reading progress.

Email Jeanine with questions about our literacy assessment and dyslexia screening.

Additional Services for Families

  • Dyslexia Advocacy: Support families in understanding and navigating dyslexia-related challenges, including how to advocate for your child’s needs at school.
  • Early Reading Intervention and Remediation Recommendations: Expert advice on early intervention strategies to address reading difficulties and boost reading skills.
  • Interpretation of Student Records, Reports, or Testing: Clear explanations of your child’s educational records, reports, and test results, helping you make informed decisions.
  • Recommendations for IEP Accommodations, Goals, and Services: Guidance on creating or adjusting Individualized Education Program (IEP) accommodations, goals, and services to best support your child’s learning needs.

These assessments are not a substitute for a full psycho-educational evaluation. A diagnosis will not be given during this process.
