Multi-Year Grant Advances Oakwood School’s Access and Affordability Efforts

Oakwood School has been awarded a multi-year grant from The Marshall E. Rinker Sr. Foundation to support tuition assistance and expand access for students with language-based learning differences, including dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and attention-based challenges.

The grant will be disbursed over three years and will strengthen Oakwood’s ability to serve families across the DC metro area who seek specialized, multisensory instruction but require financial support to access it.

We are so grateful for the partnership that has been established between the Marshall E. Rinker Sr. Foundation and Oakwood School. This grant helps ensure that more students who learn differently can benefit from the individualized education Oakwood provides. It directly supports our mission to expand access and create meaningful educational opportunities for families whose children require a school specifically designed to meet their unique learning needs.

Grant funding will be directed toward the Bob McIntyre Tuition Assistance Fund, which helps reduce financial barriers for families while supporting the long-term sustainability of Oakwood’s mission-driven work.

“A few months ago, I had the privilege of speaking with the President of the Marshall E. Rinker Sr. Foundation, Dr. David Rinker, PhD, about the benefits of an Oakwood education and how donations to our program help to make Oakwood a reality for many children with learning differences,” said Phallon Perry, Development Director. “During the conversation, we discussed how attending Oakwood isn’t a luxury for the students who need it; it is a necessity.”

Oakwood recognizes that grants like this are made possible by the strength and engagement of its wider community. The generosity of Oakwood’s donors, families, alums, grandparents, and staff demonstrates the school’s impact and momentum when seeking external funding.

Oakwood School is a private, nonprofit school in Annandale, Virginia, serving students in grades 1–8 with language-based learning differences. Through structured, multisensory instruction and small-group learning, Oakwood empowers bright students to build confidence, independence, and academic success.
