Team-Building at Oakwood School

A Day of Growth & Adventure with Calleva

Middle school students on Teams 7, 8, and 9 recently went on an unforgettable team-building field trip with Calleva. The day was designed to promote personal growth, teamwork, and collaboration. Activities blended adventure and a growth mindset (that sounds familiar) and balanced group objectives and personal goals.

Students were divided into small groups and rotated through various challenges that tested their communication and problem-solving abilities. Facilitated by Calleva's staff, these activities offered an incredible opportunity for students to discover their strengths and support each other.

Challenges were split into "low elements" and "high elements." Students walked across cables, balanced on boards, and navigated obstacles. The low elements were a true test of creative thinking, strategies (ahem, another Oakwood favorite), and working together to achieve group goals. In the high elements, the focus shifted to individual growth, supported by team encouragement, where students were asked to stretch their comfort zones. As students climbed through trees and flew through the air, it allowed their peers to cheer them on - celebrating their achievements. Several students proudly shared they had made it to the top of the course despite their initial worry or self-doubt.

One student reflected, "When you worked together, it got easier."

Building Confidence & Connection

The Calleva field trip is more than just a fun day away from school—it’s a key part of the Oakwood experience. It strengthens bonds between classmates and reinforces the values we emphasize every day: perseverance, collaboration, and the courage to step outside your comfort zone. We hope our students return with newfound confidence, eager to tackle academic and personal challenges with the same determination they showed in the trees.

As Owen H shared, "Out of all the field trips, this is the best one." Watch our Instagram Reel for a recap!
