Speech/Language and Occupational Therapy services are provided
on a contractual basis during the school day. This arrangement
allows for optimal coordination between the therapists and
the teaching staff. Reinforcement of therapy objectives in
the classroom can occur in this setting and help the student
progress toward meeting individual goals.
The Speech/Language therapists also provide pragmatic speech
classes for several of the classrooms. In these lessons the
students practice language skills needed for telephone etiquette,
asking a friend over, and basic conversational techniques
such as turn taking, maintaining a topic, and talking to adults.
Students enjoy these practical lessons.
In the Occupational Therapy groups provided in some classes,
the students strengthen their hand muscles and learn correct
letter formation in manuscript and cursive. Using their expertise
and a variety of materials, the Occupational Therapists make
handwriting practice fun for the students.
